At the left is the Hotel Fritz Reuter. From 1884 to 1855 Mrs. Elizabeth Peyton ran her "select boarding house" here. Her guests included Chief Justice Marshall, Clay, Calhoun, Justice Story and other notables. The original building was later remodeled and occupied by the Hotel Fritz Reuter, noted for its German cooking and wines. To the right are the spires of the Metropolitan Church and the First Presbyterian Church. |
