The scene of many historic festivities, this Masonic building was erected in 1845 as a memorial to President Andrew Jackson. Tom Thumb gave three performances here when he visited the city in 1849 and President Zachary Taylor's inaugural ball was held here. When this photo was taken the building was being used as a rare seed warehouse by the Department of Agriculture. It was torn down in 1949 to make room for the Federal Courthouse.
