Judge Howell has completed clerkship hiring for the 2022-23 term.  She is not currently accepting clerkship applications.

Judicial Internships
Judge Beryl A. Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia accepts interns in her Chambers for three terms: Spring (January to April); Summer (May to August); and Fall (September to December). Applications for Spring Internships must be submitted by the previous November 15; applications for Summer Internships must be submitted by the previous December 15; and applications for Fall Internships must be submitted by the previous May 15. Note, all applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, meaning all available slots may be filled before the application deadline.

Interns in Judge Howell's Chambers receive hands-on experience in legal research and writing, as well as the opportunity to observe court proceedings. Interns are expected to dedicate a standard 40-hour week in the Summer and two full days per week during the Spring and Fall. All applicants must have completed at least one year of law school by the start of their internship.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript (if available), and writing sample. Applicants are strongly encouraged to combine the documents into a single PDF for submission. Applicants may submit their applications via email to: Judge_Howell_Internships@dcd.uscourts.gov or through their law school’s job posting service, such as Symplicity, where available.  Note that information, communications, and documents other than internship applications submitted to Judge_Howell_Internships@dcd.uscourts.gov will be discarded.
